1、Project BackgroundTo expedite the resolution of flooding problems in low-lying areas of river systems and regional drainage and catchment sites under city or county government jurisdiction, An approved implementation of “the Regulation Project of Flood-Prone Areas” by the Executive Yuan from July 2006 to December 2013. There are quite a number of completion cases for this project.To continue to promote flood-prevention efficacy, again, the Executive Yuan approved “the Comprehensive River Basin Management Plan (2014-2019)” in 2014. Parts of the planned works are also being carried out.To strengthen the water professional knowledge and skills of the water conservancy staff, this project collects the completed regional drainage works of “the Regulation Project of Flood-Prone Areas” and “the Comprehensive River Basin Management Plan” to edit the selected cases into a special edition book. As an education and training materials, the engineering visit and training course was held to enhance the ability of trainees to deal with related technologies and methods.2、Methods and ProceduresThe project was carried out in two main directions: (1) Editing of the selected cases into a book; and (2) Implementation of engineering site visit and training course.The collection of the engineering cases which were the completed regional drainage works are from the website of the Water Resources Agency (WRA) for “the Regulation Project of Flood-Prone Areas” and “the Comprehensive River Basin Management Plan.” Interviews and visits were conducted with the River Management Offices of the Nation; and 27 engineering cases were collected. After screening and confirmed by the River Management Offices, 18 cases were finally elected as the material of the special edition book.Three sessions of engineering site visit and training course were carried out at the north, central and southern regions. Itinerary with two days and one night was planned. Through static explanation and field trip observation, the engineering visit and training course offer participants a circumstance to explore and study the case of water engineering techniques and methods. Cases of the engineering visit and training course were partially choose from the special edition book as well as the sophisticated cases which were recommended by the River Management Offices in order to improve experience-based abilities for trainees.3、Important Results(1) Editing of the selected cases into a special edition bookEighteen engineering cases were selected from the River Management Offices of the Nation as the materials of the special edition book. The contents of the book were divided into preface, description of selected cases and summary.(2) Implementation of engineering site visit and training courseThis project completed the north, central and southern regions a total of 3 sessions of engineering site visit and training course. The itinerary was 2 days and 1 night.(3) Through examples of observation, briefing notes to the final sharing of experience, the engineering site visit and training course offer participants’ circumstances to explore and study the case of water engineering techniques and methods. Generally, the trainees responded very positively to the engineering visit and training course and the results were very fruitful.
