為記錄百年以來台灣水利發展之歷程，擬透過相關文獻、史料、圖資之蒐集，以圖文並茂風格呈現，編纂「百年台灣重大水利建設紀要」，對百年以來之重大水利建設進行廣泛性蒐錄與介紹，以兼具文獻保存及教育宣導目的。 本專書除以時間軸呈現百年以來之台灣重大水利建設外，內容擬包括防洪治水、水資源建設、海岸防護等面向，有系統地（如按區域或水系之地理位置分布）以圖文介紹各重大水利建設。

The “Key water development and flood prevention projects in Taiwan of the past century” is to be published in celebration of the one hundredth anniversaries for the founding of Taiwan, the Republic of China. In addition to keeping records of the shared memories of the nation, the illustrated book is also intended to promote public awareness about the contributions of water development and flood prevention projects towards the national growth of Taiwan. Two editorial board meetings and two consultation meetings with senior and retired water professionals have been conducted to decide on the overall narrative for different stages of social developments and the organizational structure of the publication. The publication is to include two main chapters, one on water development, and the other on flood prevention and control. Each chapter is to begin with an introductory section which includes three parts in the sequence of a historical narrative, commentaries on the current spatial distribution of the projects, and future trends and visions. After introductory section, the chapter on water development would delve deeper into case illustrations of chosen projects in five categories: irrigation, reservoirs and weirs, hydro-electricity, groundwater development, and the public water supply. The case illustrations in the flood prevention and control chapter would cover chosen projects in 3 categories: flood prevention and drainage, coastal protection, and post-disaster reconstruction
