Hu-Shan reservoir started to store water and operated in 2016. In order to protect the water quality and quantity effectively, and to interact with NGOs sufficiently, this study aims on the soil disaster, water quality and quantity within the watershed of the reservoir, through investigation on the situation of the watershed and evaluating the soil-yielding and water quality environment to provide the basis of the watershed integrity.
This project developed how to manage the total amount of pollution sources in the catchment area through the methods of soil/sand control, water quality improvement measures, soil sand and water quality hydrological model simulation, and human activities and the needs of animals and plants in the catchment area. Making a comprehensive consideration of the current conditions of the environment, and seek strategies to reduce pollution in the catchment area such that the risk of water pollution can be reduced.
In the collapsed land, the collapsed soil and sand within 500 meters from the river and the road are listed as the high-mobility areas. The sub-catchment S4 of the soil sand production hotspot area totally has of 81 collapsed sites within 500 meters of the river, but only 2 collapsed sites within 500 meters from the road (one in each of 104.11.28 and 106.01.28).The 2 places should be in the same position, that the site is natural re-grow in the image of 106.07.12 shown. Therefore, the project screening the collapsed sites of whole Hu-Shan reservoir area. After the field survey, totally 44 collapsed sites demand for treatment. And through analysis the conservation strategy and expected benefit, that total control amount of soil was 1,194,728(M3), and the total control amount of forestation was 104,733 (M3) and the total control amount of natural re-grow was 23,021 (M3) in the 44 collapsed sites.
The hotspots are distributed in S1, S2 and S5 regions, which are the gathering places of agricultural land and human construction zones, the point source pollution generated by the settlement domestic sewage, and the non-point source pollution generated by the agricultural land, which is widely distributed in the Hushan Reservoir catchment area. Installation of BMP (best management practice)/ LID (low impact development) facilities are recommended to intercept in situ pollutions then discharge after the treatment. When the whole area is controlled such like situation 6, that control the point source and non-point source pollution, including reduce point source pollution under 2mg/L and reduce the 50% non-point source pollution. So that the average concentration of total phosphorus can be reduced below the 40 μg/L.
Three sites in the catchment were selected as the demonstration sites for low-impact development(LID) measures after conducted non-point source pollution potential, determining sub-watershed area, and drainage roads, etc.. Bio-retention and buffer zone are selected as LID measures for this project. The demonstration area is located at 2 locations in the catchment area of the Hushan Reservoir area and 1 above the Tong-Tou weir.
