河相學(fluvial geomorphology，又譯為河流地形學)為地理學之分支，係基於自然營力描述河川不同尺度的形貌生成與變動機制。臺灣於產業發展時對水資源需求大幅提昇，且對防災之需求日益增高，因此建設水利工程以維護河防安全。國內過去相關研究雖由不同尺度探討河川形態分類方法，唯尚未連結至河川規劃實務之應用(如河川區域線及治理計畫線劃設等)。另河川周邊之開發壓縮河川空間，使河川無法透過其原有之潭、瀨、自然堤(natural levee)等地形特徵，發揮自行穩定的功能。本計畫由地理學之河相觀點，探討河川廊道之合理範圍，並提出河相學應用於河川治理規劃之流程及相關說明，使河川空間能在最少量的工程介入下，兼顧河防安全與環境生態。

Facing the challenges of extreme climate, various countries applied fluvial geomorphology to determine the extent of fluvial corridor—area where a river is allowed to move freely and display its sedimentation nad erosion processes. This study proposed a framework and procedure to deliniate the fluvial corridors in Taiwan. In stage 1, we divided Taiwan into thirteen river basin districts and summarized the rivers into four categories. A river can then be longitudinally divided into segments such as mountain, valley, alluvial fan and plain. In stage 2, four boundaries including historical corridor, the potential occupation area in the next 50 years, the area prone to deposition and the area prone to inundation, are used to determine the extent of fluvial corridors and the subsequent management zones. The results could be link to the procedures of river regulation and planning. The purpose is to make river space with less engineering intervention but still keeping the flood-control safety and providing valuable eco-system services.
