In order to protect water body and maintain sediment quality, the 7th River Management Office in WRA faithfully executed environmental monitoring program on the jurisdiction areas, covering Gaoping River, Donggang River and Szuchung Stream, this year (2017). The annual monitoring program followed standard procedure of sediment sampling and quality assurance requirements of EPA. Three parts of working in this project are: (1) sediment sampling and QA procedures reporting, (2) monitoring samples and analysis, and (3) results reporting via internet. A total of 29 sampling pointes, including 18 in Gaoing River, 8 in Donggang River and 3 points in Szuchung Stream, were analyzed 41 regulated items, which covering heavy metals, organic compounds, pesticides and other organic compounds. The results were further interpreted based on current regulation of "Classification Management and Use Restrictions of the Sediment Quality Indicators" and categorized into three as either “satisfication”, “exceeding the lower limit”, or “beyond the upper limit”.
Based on the fact of drought resulting from flowrates decreasing monitored between 6 and 16 February, 2016, three sampling points (Wan’an Bridge, Sanmin Bridge and Guangfu Bridge) were escaped. Analytical results from the other 26 sampling points were all reported in detail herein.
The organic compounds, pesticides and other organic compounds in the sediments of Donggang River all conform to the standard values of sediment quality indicators.Only part of heavy metals were found exceeded the limits, such as arsenic (As), nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn) in sediment samples from Donggang River. Where only one point (Xinghe Bridge), the detected As concentration of 13.1 mg‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 11.0 mg‧kg-1. Where six points (East Harbor Bridge, Hong Kong West pumping station, Hing community bridge, five Quebec bridge, Chaozhou Bridge, Longdong Bridge), the detected Ni concentration of 28.7 ~ 35.9 mg‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 24.0mg‧kg-1. Where three points (Xinghe Bridge, Wu Kui Bridge, Longdong Bridge), the detected Zn concentration of 180 ~ 225 mg‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 140 mg‧kg-1.
The organic compounds, pesticides and other organic compounds in the sediments of Szuchung Stream all conform to the standard values of sediment quality indicators.Only part of heavy metals were found exceeded the limits, such as arsenic (As), mercury (Hg) and nickel (Ni) in sediment samples from Szuchung Stream. Where two points (Wynn Bridge and overpass Bridge), the detected As concentration of 13.5~16.8 mg‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 11.0 mg‧kg-1. Where only one point (Wynn Bridge), the detected Hg concentration of 0.326 mg‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 0.23mg‧kg-1. Where three points (car city Bridge, Wynn Bridge and overpass Bridge), the detected Ni concentration of 33.0~36.5mg‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 24.0 mg‧kg-1.

Where eight points (Large bridge, high-screen bridge, Li Ling Bridge, in Hong Kong Bridge, tea bridge, the new flag tail bridge, Wu Luqiao, round Tanqiao), the detected As concentration of 11.2~17.5mg‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 11.0 mg‧kg-1. Where thirteen points (estuary, Shuangyuan Bridge, Wan Bridge, high-screen bridge, high-Pingxi River weir, Li Ling Bridge, in Hong Kong Bridge, high tree bridge, tea bridge, triple bridge Abdomen bridge, Wuku bridge, Yuantan Bridge), the detected Ni concentration of 24.4~38.9mg‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 24.0mg‧kg-1. Where only one point (high tree bridge), the detected Zn concentration of 178g‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 140 mg‧kg-1. While only one point (Gaoping River Weir),the detected DEHP concentration of 2.91g‧kg-1 was exceed the lower limit of the standard value of 1.97 mg‧kg-1. The rest of the other organic compounds meet the standard value. Subsequent arrangements for another on April 25, 2017for high Ping River weir test station retest, retest measured 0.45mg / kg in line with the standard value.
Due to the above sediment quality testing frequency only once.The governemnt authority shall based on” classification management and usage restriction of sediment quality indicators” to increase testing frequency to consitantly understand sediment quality.
