Taichung coast with the beach of about 30 km long between the Daan River and the Wu River, in which the Taichung harbor is excluded, is located at the central part of western Taiwan. Two national wetlands, that are the Dadu wetland and the Gaomei wetland, with various landscape neighbor with the Taichung harbor southwards and southwards, respectively, provides visitors with various ecological tourism, sightseeing hotspot on sunset watching and beach strolling. Based on environmental and ecological measurements in this two-year project an assessment on the ecology and landscape of two national wetlands is carried out to provide some references for environmental construction and planning to improve the abundance of coastal habitat and attractive landscape in coming year Ecological measurements on marine organism and environmental factors were carried out three times in this year. The measurement items include fouling organism, benthonic organism, plankton, hotspot distribution and roadkill observation of land crabs. Survey points are separated into three regions, that are Fanzihliao seawall, Gaomei and Dadu estuary wildlife refuges. Difference of ecological phase between different times can be illustrated by the ABC curve analysis of the abundance and biomass data introduced by Warwick (1986). Ecological phase in the southern Gaomei region for 2016 is worse than for 2013 due to much human activity and worse water quality. Through hotspot measurement of land crabs during the spring tides, the positions of hotspot of land crabs are recognized and the ratio of roadkill and non-roadkill of land crabs is analyzed. The results of ecological measurements provide with good references for coming planning. Guidelines for environmental construction and planning are drawn up in two principles as (1) To consider in-site ecological phase and reduce human impact seawall is the main part of integrated planning; (2) to reduce some part of existed structures or add less imperative facility is the key way of operating the planning. Three main topics are focused on (1) Friendly reformed Fanzihliao seawall for land crabs; (2) Conservation of Bolbos choenus planieulmis; (3) improved seawall with high quality landscape and environment. Three main planned items include (1) Reformed Fanzihliao seawall with a safe and easy through way for land crabs; (2) Designing the berm of Gaomei second seawall for a bicycle route and greening the concrete seaside pavement; (3) Rearrangement of breakwaters ahead of levee of Longjing seawall and route planning of fishing and touring. The objective of this project is to aim at integrated environmental construction and planning on seawalls in both the Dadu wetland and the Gaomei wetland to provide excellent natural and ecological tourism.
